The Role

At Notpla, we are on a mission to make packaging disappear. We are an innovative, ideas- and action-oriented start up that was founded on the belief that nature knows best. We develop and manufacture naturally biodegradable packaging solutions, made from seaweed and plants. We are currently looking to bring in a finance manager to join our business services team, to manage all of the transactional finance and put in place new systems and processes to improve efficiency.

This is an exciting time to join Notpla as Head of Sales - the Company has just achieved its' first £1m revenue year and expects to see rapid growth. We have one fully commercialised product category which is just waiting for the right person to lead the team in driving this forward, as well as a number of products in development that require a more creative approach to trials and selling. The team operates in a product-determined matrix structure that means you will work with a number of different product and function groups. In this integral role you will be responsible for shaping and instilling revenue growth disciplines to drive better performance and capabilities across our sustainable packaging portfolio. This role will also involve people management - you will be taking over a team of 9 individuals so it's important you balance your own workload with that of the reports you will have. With this combination of strategic growth and people management, you will be given the opportunity to take responsibility for not only your own results but the results of the team and the business as well. It is  a role that will allow you to grow and develop alongside the revenue of the business. 
Your profile

We are looking for a practical Head of Sales with experience in both driving sales themselves, as well as in growing a team under them. You will need to have a proven track record of leading commercially-oriented teams, growing revenue through selling multiple, innovative products, and establishing new sales processes. As well as the above, other day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a team (c. 9 people) to drive business growth across all customer segments and channels, including establishing and managing appropriate KPIs across that team

  • Identifying and developing leads, driving sales from the introduction to the Notpla brand, through to the completion of the sales cycle.

  • Working alongside the Account Managers to drive increased revenue within existing customer accounts. 

  • Monitoring the revenue pipeline and leads, adjusting as necessary to create sustainable growth opportunities.

  • Developing greater customer analysis functionality in the Commercial team, especially in our small but growing direct to customer channel (for takeaway food boxes).

  • Driving change and continuous improvement in the way we serve our customers.

  • Staying well-connected with customers, and the wider targeted industries (especially in food service) to ensure broad market needs are being incorporated into the product development and ‘improvement’ cycle.

  • Identify and resolve issues across marketing, new business and account management areas, leading to greater team effectiveness and internal efficiencies.

  • Lead contract and price negotiations where relevant.

This role will give you exposure to several Notpla products that are targeted at multiple industries globally. 

Ideally, you would have past experience in packaging directly, or in products where packaging was a critical component of the overall sale. We will also happily consider applicants with experience selling tangible products with a strong sustainability focus too.
